Jetta Fails to Yield and ’32 Ford Highboy Pays the Price

Fahrvergnügen was probably not the first thing uttered by the driver of a Volkswagen as her Jetta slammed into a ’32 Ford Highboy in Hanover Township, Michigan.

The driver of the Jetta failed to yield and when her car collided with the beautiful ’32 Ford the driver and passenger of the Highboy were ejected. A husband and wife, were enjoying a cruise with the top down in their vintage ride when the collision occurred.

Other drivers who witnessed the crash, stopped to provide aid to the husband and wife as they eagerly awaited the arrival of emergency personnel. Both occupants of the ’32 were transported by ambulance to the hospital and the driver of the Jetta sustained minor injuries from the collision.

According to M Live, there is not a stop sign where the accident took place, but based on eye witnesses as well as a state trooper the driver of the Jetta failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The Jetta sustained some damage, but the front end of the ’32 tells the tale.

The disheveled front grill, broken headlights, and mangled suspension show the impact that ejected the driver and passenger from the car. Both the state trooper and tow truck driver showed respect for the ’32 and its owner by raising the top on the car to protect it from further damage as it was transported from the scene.

As is usually the case, the owner opted to omit the addition of after market restraints because they are not required in vehicles of that era. Seat belts or restraints may have prevented serious injury in this case, but obeying the rules of road could have prevented it entirely.
