There can only ever be one “first.” Everybody remembers the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, as well as the first mass-produced car, the Model-T. There are many firsts in the automotive world, though some seemingly-important cars get lost to history. People just didn’t judge the value the muscle cars back then the way they do today, and many historical vehicles were sold or traded for pennies of their real worth.

Thanks to eBay though, one important part of Chevy history may have been uncovered. Here is an auction for the very first production Camaro ever built.

Unlike many of the rare, “first” cars we see here, this one is in comparatively shabby shape. This car was through and through a race car, and while it bears the significant 123377n100001 VIN tag, it has almost none of the original parts. Additionally, it is missing the engine, transmission, the rear end has been swapped with a Ford, and all told this is not a collector-ready item.

Then again, it is a significant piece of automotive history. So far as we know, nothing has been done to certify that this is indeed the first Camaro ever built. We doubt the full roll cage or fiberglass front clip add value to the car, but perhaps a savvy investor might be able to restore this car back to its original form. The bidding reached $35,000 and the reserve was not met. How high can it go, and is it worth it?
