American muscle cars are known the world over for their loud engines and huge amounts of horsepower. They’re also known for not being much good at anything besides going fast in a straight line. The Ford Falcon XY GT is not an American muscle car though; it’s an Australian muscle car.
And with a little Aussie elbow grease and know-how, they turned a four-door Falcon into a rockin’ rally racer, as this video found by Jalopnik shows.
The Aussies have the whole Outback as their playground, and lots of classic V8 muscle cars to choose from when it comes to rally racing. So finding a four-door XY GT Falcon with a roll cage and real racers behind the wheel is hardly surprising. Still, watching a sedan power-sliding through dust and dirt is a bit cooler than your standard compact rally car, isn’t it?
Even we have to admit though, this Falcon isn’t exactly the smoothest customer when it comes to rally racing. There’s a lot of sharp turns where the car all but stops, as maneuverability is something of an issue when it comes to this big ol’ Falcons. But that wouldn’t stop us from getting behind the wheel, should we ever get the chance.
