It’s been a while since we’ve been in a limo. They mostly seem reserved for prom night, wedding days, and the occasional funeral. Sure, there is something cool about being driven around in a conspicuous vehicle, whether it is a stretched Lincoln Town Car, Hummer, or what have you. We’d rather be the driver though, especially if it was a limo like Jim Carr’s.
Drive did a feature story on Jim Carr’s Mustang stretch limo a few years ago, but we just stumbled upon. And yes, you read that right; Mustang stretch limo.
The Drive story explains that Jim always wanted to get himself an early, red Mustang convertible. Mustangs are few and far between in Australia, often imported at high cost from the United States. Carr managed to land himself a yellow coupe and, eventually, bought the little red convertible he always wanted. All was not well however, as Carr bought it sight-unseen from America. Turns out he had bought a rustbucket.
Undeterred, Carr started taking welding and sheetmetal classes. While working with the teach, who mentioned he had been quoted on doing a stretch limo, car had an idea. Make a Mustang stretch limo. The project required him to cut up not one, but both of his Mustangs, and then weld them together. In the process he adapted the roof line from an Australian Ford Falcon, and a few other proponents to ensure the air conditioning and heating reached the back of the car.
It is a pretty amazing testament to the skill and dedication of Mustang fans around the world.
