The Dukes of Hazzard was a surprise television success story. Who would have thought that a show about two moonshine-running cousins and a girl in cutoff shorts would become so popular? Yet over 30 years later people are still regularly creating tributes to the true star of the show, the General Lee, an orange ‘69 Dodge Charger.
While many different cars have been painted the Generals colors, and even wear the Confederate Stars & Bars, it takes a true fan (or a serious mental illness) to take a solid ‘69 Charger and convert it into a 4×4 General Lee like the car we found over on the Dodge Charger forums.
About midway through the second season, the show’s producers wrote the episode “Arrest Jesse Duke,” in which a gang of all-girl car thieves and parts strippers were pilfering parts from cars in Hazzard county. Uncle Jesse becomes the prime suspect, prompting Bo and Luke to track down the real thieves. They have Cooter convert the General into a 4×4 so they can chase down the female parts thieves, who also use 4×4’s.
The car above belongs to one Marty Bollinger, who has actually created more than one of these monster General Lees. The truck stacks, push bar, and flood lights are of his own adding. though we think it adds another layer of depth to this wacky ride. We’re not sure what kind of frame it sits on, though it has definitely been jacked up a few inches. No doubt some Mopar purists will hate Bollinger for “ruining” another Charger, but this car was probably on the way to the junkyard before he got to it anyways.
There is something special about a Dodge Charger monster truck, don't you agree?
