Famed American crooner Dean Martin is one of the all-time greatest singers and actors to ever grace the silver screen. You don’t have to be an old timer to appreciate Martin’s special brand of singing, and the longtime member of the famed “Rat Pack” was crowned the King of Cool for a very good reason.
It wasn’t just his style or his outfit that made Martin so cool; his choice in automobiles was impeccable. Up on eBay is a very rare car, a 1962 Ghia L6.4, that was once owned by Dean Martin himself.
The Chrysler-powered Ghia is the normal celebrate ride we come across, as many big time American celebrities preferred opulent luxury or raw brute muscle. But being the King of Cool, Martin needed something both stylish, luxurious, yet not loud or in-your-face. The Ghia L6.4 was the perfect car for him.
Designed exclusively for Dean Martin, this one of 26 Ghia L6.4 was also touched by George Barris
Just 26 of these Ghias were built, each for someone special (or especially wealthy). Martin went even further, having famed customizer George Barris make subtle modifications, including the oval headlights and Nardi wood-trimmed steering wheel. Under the hood is Chrysler’s famed 383 V8, backed by a Torqueflite automatic transmission. There is even a plaque added by Barris that says “Designed Exclusive for Mr. Dean Martin.” How cool is that?
Bidding has already ended on Martin’s Ghia, $500 short of $200,000. For a car this cool, touched by not one but two 60’s celebrities, we think it’d be worth every penny.
