Easily one of the best-documented marketing flops of the 21st century, Ford’s Edsel brand became famous for being just awful in every week. From poor workmanship to terrible marketing to styling that was alluded to as a “Buick sucking a lemon”, Edsel automobiles have become oddly treasured because of their infamous history.
So why someone decided to mashup a 1958 Edsel with a 1958 Ford Ranchero, creating a pickup version of this historical flop, we may never know. But it sure is…interesting to say the least, and it could be yours if you place a bid on the eBay auction.
There is precious little info on this Edsel/Ranchero combo, though it would seem that the truck is indeed titled as a Ranchero. Judging by how the back end looks like an entirely untouched Ranchero, we’d venture to guess this is a front-end Edsel conversion. So a Ranchero with an Edsel front end. Makes more sense, yes?
The bastardization of this classic Ford combo continues with a 390 cubic-inch V8 pulled from Police Interceptor. This car is clean, fitting the sellers description that it has sat a long time in storage, though this has also resulted in a leaky power steering system and an A/C unit that needs to be recharged. But these are small issues for such a unique car, don’t you think?
