The 1970’s were a hard time for America as gas prices and crime soared and the Nixon administration came under fire for a litany of crimes related for the now famous Watergate scandal. But it was also a time of awesome detective drama television shows and movies like Hawaii 5.0 and Shaft. But chief among these police dramas was Starsky & Hutch, which got itself a movie remake in 2004.
While the remake featured big names like Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Owen Wilson, the real star was the 1974 Ford Torino, painted in that famous red-and-white livery. Now the hero car from the 2004 remake has shown up for sale on eBay. Just do et!
The ‘74 Torino was the center of many gags, as Starsky (played by Stiller) was incredibly protective of his awesome car. The movie used numerous cars for action sequences, along with a “hero” car for the close-up shots. The car in this eBay auction is supposed to be that hero car, which means it is in top-notch condition.
The seller claims to have been the builder of the car for the movie, and he kept it for himself, putting just 80 or so miles on it since the movie debut. Car & Driver even called this the “Best Torino in the world”, and you’d have a hard time disputing that. But what is it worth? Right now bidding has stalled just under $33,000. And while normally mid-70’s automobiles don’t draw those kinds of numbers, this is a rare case where this Torino is worth at least that, if not more.
