Car guys know that for the most part, we can’t help what cars we are attracted to. Sure, most everybody finds a 1963 Corvette beautiful, or a Ferrari F40 lusty, but most gearheads have that one particular style which, for whatever reason, is their favorite. You could list a million reasons why Studebaker was a bad brand, but to a die hard, it won’t matter, because it is just the best.
And it must have been a die hard Studebaker fan who put together today’s eBay Find of the Day. This real steel body 1929 Studebaker has been given a full-on hot rod restoration, slamming the car to the ground and giving it a candy-red paint job that leaves us developing a bit of Studebaker bias ourselves.
The slammed-look is thanks to a 4-inch drop axle, though the seller still claims there is about 5-inches of ground clearance with the airbag system aired up. Of course a ride like this has airbags, and Wilwood brakes out back and a front brake kit from the SoCal Speed Shop. In fact, about the only thing “original” on this hot rod is the ‘29 Studebaker body, which was chopped only 5-inches. It is even titled as a ‘29 Studebaker, though it sits on a custom tubular steel chassis.
Between the fenders is the classic Chevy 350 V8 backed by a Turbo 350 transmission, and this Studebaker rides on vintage 15-inch rims. The seller says it runs good and will drive anywhere, and we believe him; this rod looks ready for a nice long trip up the California coast. We’d drive it anywhere if we had the chance; for $28,500, would you?
