If you know where to look, the Internet can be a very inspiring place. As enthusiasts, it can be easy to get lost in looking at all the cars we want to add to our virtual collections, and forget to actually work on our own project car or daily driver. But if you look in the right place, you can find the inspiration to go above and beyond what most people do to their cars.
One of our favorite rides to date is the Nelson Racing Engines 1969 Camaro supercar. Packing a twin-turbocharged, 572ci big-block, this black beauty has 2,000 horsepower on tap and a look that inspires terror and reverence. At the heart of this monster is its powerplant, which uses all of NRE’s gathered knowledge to be both streetable, tame and at times off-the-wall nuts.
This Camaro is so much more than a big-block engine. NRE went all out with electronically-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes from Baer, a Viper-sourced six-speed manual transmission with a twin 10.5-inch dual-disc clutch. The suspension features Detroit Speed coil-overs and a Strange Engineering 9-inch rearend that lets this Camaro carve corners as well as any lightweight import.
Riding on custom HRE wheels and sporting a gorgeous Midnight Black paintjob, this Camaro is sexy as well as fast. Just for kicks, there is a 1,000 watt stereo system that is exceeded only by the natural sound of that sick engine kicking out 2,000 horsepower.
Sure, this Nelson supercar was originally introduced back in 2010…but looking back on this slick Camaro helps us envision what our own rides might look like in a few years time. Don’t worry though, we’ll have a complete update on the Camaro in its second rendition, soon!
Oh, one more factoid…this engine runs on pump gas. How’s that for streetable?
