Only in America will somebody go out of their way to buy the best suspension and engine parts for their hot rod, and completely forgo any kind of paint job. They are called rat rods, and for good reason; their raggedly appearance often belies their performance potential. They are fun, attention-grabbing cars, and often the owners of these odd rods are just as unique as the cars themselves.
Over at Autoholics, Kelly Fromm posted up pictures of this interesting looking contraption. What really helps set this rat rod apart from the others aren’t just its looks, but the creative signboard that came with it.
Kelly came across this car at the Daytona Beach Turkey Run car show. There were over 5,000 cars on display at this show, but this one obviously caught Kelly (and a lot of other peoples’) attention.
Perhaps it was the mailbox aircleaner, the fresh layers of patina, and what we believe is a genuine Bugatti radiator up front. It could have been all of these, but that isn’t what got our eye.
Instead it is the simple cardboard sign resting on front of the car, with “Sure It Runs” scrawled across the top.
According to the owner, this car has been driven about 58,000 miles since it was completed, new, in 2006. That’s a lot of driving, and probably backs up the claim that this car was driven more than any other car at the show. It is a daily driver, and named “Skanky” in honor of all his old girlfriends. A classy car for a classy gentleman to be sure!
