If an engine were to be looked at in terms of the human body, than one could argue that the crankshaft is the spine of any motor. It sends the signals to the rest of the motor about when to do what. Protecting your engine’s spine is essential to the health of any engine, high performance or not.

Eagle Specialty Products has recently come out with a unique finishing process that they call “Armor.” Unlike many other similar services, Eagle’s Armor is not a coating, but rather a special surface finishing process, the result of which is a very slick surface that benefits your engine in a variety of ways.

As you might expect, a slippery crank surface allows the oil to more easily slide along the crankshaft, thus reducing friction. Less friction means freed up horsepower. Other side effects include cooler oil temperatures, reduced windage losses, and better corrosion protection, all of which translate to more horsepower and better protection for your engine’s bearings. In independent dyno tests, Eagle gained between, 19 and 30 horsepower on a 700 horsepower 496 Chevy big block engine using an Armor-finished crankshaft only.
