For most of us, our first experience with cars was the popular Hot Wheels brand of die-cast toys. First introduced by Mattel in 1968, Hot Wheels have been around for some of the most popular movie and television series starring cars, which have become permanently ingrained into American culture. So when we read this news story, we said out loud “About time!”
Hot Wheels is starting a new line of die-cast toy cars aimed at, shall we say, the more “seasoned” collector, reports fan site Hot Wheels Collectors. Called the Retro Entertainment Series, this new line will star some of the most famous Hollywood cars in our culture, covering everything from the A-Team’s GMC panel van to the Volkswagen Bug from Footloose.
There are a total of 35 cars in this eclectic mixture of nostalgia meets metal, and while some of these cars are arguably more recognizable than others, there is something for just about everyone here. Some standouts for us include the ‘32 Ford hot rod from American Graffiti (including the correct THX-138 license plate) and the Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters.
Smokey and the Bandit’s ‘77 Trans Am can also be had, alongside K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. Even the Morris MINI from the Italian Job is being offered in this unique collection of iconic cars. Each one of these nostalgic rides will set you back $3, so the entire collection will cost you more than $100. But this is one car collection even those of us pinching our pennies can probably afford.
