Some people like to blend it with the crowd. These are your standard fare Mustang and Camaro owners, the people who want the cars that “everybody else” has. Then there are those of us who prefer to stand out, as it were. We seek something different, a car with taste and refinement, but not lacking in power. Something that will still turn heads, even among the cadres of other classic cars. You’ll be hard press to find a better head turner than the 1967 Mercury Cougar, especially with singer Neko Case at the wheel.
Jalopnik, who first found Neko and her ’67 Cougar, which takes prominence on the cover of her album “Middle Cyclone,” has now found out that she is actually raffling the car off for charity. At just $45 per-ticket, you have a chance to own a one awesome automobile.
Now we know you’re asking “But who is Neko Case?” She is a 40-year-old Indie Rock singer-songwriter who just happens to be very attractive. In the parliaments of our time, she could very easily be defined as a “Cougar.” She was voted the “Sexiest Babe of Indie Rock” by a Playboy poll, has lent her voice for Adult Swim’s “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” among other cartoons, and has a general silly sense of humor. Also, there’s something about a sword-swinging singer standing on the hood of a classic muscle car that really turns us on.
As it would have it, Neko realizes that this car has a following all its own. She is going to raffle the car off, with the proceeds going towards the 826 National Project, a writing tutoring program. The auction is called “Mercury Cougar-Rama Muscle Car ‘Splosion” There are other prizes to be won as well, and the drawing begins on Feburary 14th, with the car being raffled off on February 18th. While Neko Case doesn’t come with the car, we’re sure she’d be willing to sign the dashboard for a fan. Get your tickets now!
