You may have heard that this week is E3, the year’s largest video gaming expo. With both Sony and Microsoft announcing their next-generation consoles weeks ago, Monday was loaded with huge reveals and new video game IPs being announced for the new consoles. Racing games have been a perennial favorite with gamers for decades, and the next-gen consoles promise to bring virtual racing to the next level.

One game trailer in particular caught our eyes though. “The Crew” is a new street racing game from Ubisoft set in a persistent, massively-multiplayer world. As cool as that is though, that isn’t why the trailer for the game drew us in. Rather, it was the star of the trailer, a Camaro SS that comes together in a cool way, that really get us revved up about this game.

The Crew is an all-new racing game where players drive across a detailed map of the United States seeking out illegal street races, most likely for money and fame. Some racers will be computer controlled, while other players can pop in and out to challenge you to a contest of speed. There will also be a wide variety of real-world cars to drive including, apparently, the Camaro SS, and police chases look like they could play a big role in the gameplay. There looks to be a wide variety of American muscle, contemporary and classic, as well as plenty of imports available for play.

The way the Camaro comes together in the trailer is a very unique introduction to the game, and it gives us hope that modifying your car will play a big part in the game. While some games have touched on aftermarket modifications, we’re still waiting for a game that will really dig deep into the technicals of car racing.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we’re pretty excited about this game, for more than one reason.
