Chances are, like most of the country, your area is currently covered by a couple of feet of snow, some ice, and maybe even a mixture of slush. For us rear-wheel drive vehicle fans, that means putting away our fast toys for a few months while the white stuff melts away. We’ve still got more than a month before the official beginning of spring, but that hasn’t stopped some people from getting out and enjoying racing in whatever way they can.
Bangshift came across this wicked video of a supposedly 2,000 horsepower dragster designed specifically for racing during the cold, wintry months.
Called “Frozen Assets,” this 2,000 horsepower dragster features a twin turbo, fuel injected Pro Line Racing engine strapped to a specially-designed dragster. This isn’t no humble snowmobile friends, but a super-fast dragster driven by Paul Groth, a man familiar with icy racing. Groth went 200 mph on the ice in a dragster back in the 1980’s and now he is back, ready to set some ice-speed records as it undergoes testing this season. Of course ice racing requires its own set of special modifications.
For example, gone are the tires, and in their place a set of tank-like treads for much better grip on the frozen water. The Spitzer-based drag racing body is perfectly suited to this kind of punishment though with a ski up front in place of tires, and watching this wild machine in action is a pleasure all its own. We can’t imagine actually racing this machine though. This takes ice racing to a whole new level, and we can’t help but question the sanity of the designers behind it. Then again, sometimes crazy is a good thing, especially when there is 2,000 horsepower involved.
