It happens to everyone; we’ve had that car since high school or we find the car that we always wanted and it just sits for years. There are thousands of dollars in parts under the bed, in the attic, hanging in the garage or stacked up in the cellar. Some of us have taken cars apart with buddies and put them right back together in a couple of weeks and they are on the road still to this day.
The sad part is we develop the mentality that since we don’t have the most expensive parts or the best parts on Earth we won’t start on it, and there it will sit year after year. You will go to hundreds of shows and swap meets but never begin your build, that new F1 Procharger under the bed is now not good enough so you sell that and start to save for the F2 Procharger.
The reality is that if we just started on the cars we owned, took baby steps, clean and paint some parts even if its only a rattle can and you assemble a few pieces every week, even if you only worked on it 4 to 5 hours here and there you will be amazed at how quickly it all comes together.
Forget expensive chrome for now, and all the stainless hardware. We know we are capable of it but for some reason we think that nothing is good enough for our baby. So it sits, the years pass and it never gets done and you spend years in the sidelines watching everyone drive their dreams (not done to our high reach expectations) but nevertheless they are the ones having fun!
Get out there and start your dream, if you can build and repair other cars whether for a friend or on the job then you can certainly get it done. Think of the rat rods, these guys build these cars in less than 30 days. So put aside the time between work and family to get started, maybe skip that TV show and go out to the garage and in no time you will be inspired to go further to completion, we all have it in us so begin!
