Buying a new car is always a big deal, and there are numerous factors you have to take into account, chief among them the fact that you are going to lose money. But a car with good resale value can take some of the sting out, and eventually allow you to recoup some of the cash you spent to have some good old-fashioned rear-wheel drive fun.

Kelley Blue Book annually awards cars with its predicted best resale value awards, and this year the Camaro V6 took the sports car award. That’s because a combination of awesome gas mileage, more than 300 horsepower, and a 5-year/100,000 warranty make it a popular and valuable used car.

It’s that warranty that sets the 5th generation Camaro apart from the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, but it’s also the futuristic styling that helps ensure it maintains that value. KBB, like many reviewers, loves the looks and style of the Camaro, which was apparently difficult to adapt to modern steel stamping methods. But totally, totally worth it. 

A quick scan on websites like Cars.com reveals that many Camaro V6s, even four year old 2010 models, are still going for well over $15,000 despite dominating sales charts for most of those past four years. It’s a really good time to go pick up a slightly used Camaro, or sell your current Camaro for beaucoup bucks and upgrade to the sleeker 2014 model. Might as well enjoy the lower gas prices while they’re around.
