When Ford brought the Boss 302 out of retirement for the 2012 and 2013 Mustang model years, enthusiasts responded by snatching them up almost as fast as Ford could build them. That’s because last time around, the limited number of Boss 302 Mustangs built soon skyrocketed in value, with well-restored versions going for as much as $100,000 or more. But there are still those lost Boss Mustangs, rotting away in fields and barns across America.

While stories for barn find Boss Mustangs are less common these days, at least one of these has been been found and restored recently. CarsInBarns reporting the story of Michael from Missouri, and how he found his dream Mustang just eight miles from his home.

By chance, Michael mentioned the Mustang to a friend, who happened to know the owner of the garage where the mystery Mustang was being kept. The friend introduced Michael to the Mustang’s owner, and he learned that the car had been sitting since 1986 with the motor out of it. The Mustang was unfortunately “sold” to a friend, but Michael left his card, and got a call this past Memorial Day.

He discovered that the Boss 302 he had just bought just just over 18,000 miles on the odometer, and still wore its original yellow paint. Even the interior was in surprisingly good condition, which meant the only work Michael had was to clean up and reinstall that potent small-block engine. This all-original survivor is a real diamond in the rough, and probably worth a pretty penny now that it’s all cleaned up and looking right.
