2016 Ford Focus RS MSRP Revealed Via Configurator

For more than a decade, Europeans have enjoyed buying and driving the ultimate hot hatch. the Ford Focus RS, while us Americans have had to settle for the less-powerful SVT and ST models. That finally changed with the reveal of the 2016 Ford Focus RS, offering Americans a 345 horsepower and all-wheel drive hot hatch wearing the Blue Oval badge for the very first time. But Ford still hasn’t set a price of entry for the 2016 Focus RS, though the automaker did inadvertently tip its hand.

Last week the 2016 Ford Focus RS configurator accidentally went online, revealing that the 345 horsepower hot hatch would have a starting MSRP of around $35,730, before destination, tax, or title. Fully-loaded, Focus RS buyers can expect to shell out about $42,275 for adding features like Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and 19-inch wheels ($1,990), the navigation-and-Recaro Racing seats RS2 package ($2,795), and a sunroof ($895).

While the Focus RS is $865 less than its main European rival, the Volkswagen Golf R, it’s about $1,000 more than the Subaru WRX STi, though the RS does offer about 40 horsepower more than its two primary rivals. While Ford has refused to comment on the configurator leak, this price aligns with a lot of speculation, while also offering enough of a gap between the Focus ST and RS models to make them two distinctly different products. Alas, the configurator page for the Focus RS is now down, so we’ll just have to wait for Ford’s confirmation.

If true, however, this pricing model also puts the 2016 Focus RS squarely up against its own stablemate, the Mustang GT, which offers twice as many cylinders and about 100 extra horsepower and torque. Sure, the Focus RS gets all-wheel drive, which makes it a lot more drivable in slick or snowy conditions, but…Mustang GT, ya know? Not an easy decision, and it all comes down to personal preference.

Focus RS, or Mustang GT, which would you rather have?
