Long neglected and almost left for dead, Ford’s new CEO has pledged a major reinvestment in the Lincoln brand that will distinguish it from the rest of the Blue Oval’s portfolio. Led by the Lincoln Continental Concept that debuted earlier in the year, the luxury automaker is following up with a new-but-familiar look for the 2017 Lincoln MKZ. It’s also introducing a brand-exclusive 3.0 liter EcoBoost V6 that promises 400 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Lincoln ever.

That’s just the beginning of a long list of improvements that has us actually looking forward to the future of Lincoln for once.

The new engine is a point of great pride for Lincoln, which has long made due with power that debuted in Ford products first. The new 3.0 liter EcoBoost V6 may be based on the 2.7 liter engine that first appeared in the F-150, but it will only be available on Lincoln models. The 400 horsepower engine will be paired with all-wheel drive in the 2017 Lincoln MKZ, while a detuned 350 horsepower option will be available for those who limited themselves to front-wheel drive. A Driver’s Pack for all-wheel drive models borrows the torque-vectoring rear differential from the 345 horsepower Focus RS, which allows the engine to send a lion’s share of the power to the rear wheels. No word on whether Drift Mode will also be an option, though that might be just a tad too unrefined for a luxury sedan.

Also new is a revised front grille that ditches the twin-waterfall look for the familiar face of the Lincoln Continental concept, though the back end remains mostly the same. Adaptive LED headlights are also a new option, as are projected Lincoln “welcome mats” that come from the side view mirrors. A new all-speed adaptive cruise control and autonomous braking system with pedestrian avoidance is also new, with four high-speed USB charging ports available to ensure your gadgets stay connected.
