British Buyers Order Almost 2,000 Mustangs, Mostly With V8s

FRAP_SV3_0859The 2015 Ford Mustang is the first truly global pony car built by the Blue Oval, offered in both left and right-hand drive versions for those funky countries like the United Kingdom that just have to drive on the wrong side of the road. British buyers have been especially keen on buying the new Mustang, placing about 2,000 orders since Ford opened its books back in January, and an overwhelming majority of those buyers opted for the 5.0 V8, outrageous gas prices be damned.

Most Brits opted for the 5.0 V8. Good show, lads!

While buyers still have wait until November for their Mustangs arrive, they will be the first to take delivery of a right-hand drive Mustang in the UK, an important milestone for this all-American automobile. Priced at £29,995 ($47,300) with the four-cylinder EcoBoost engine and £33,995 ($53,600) with the V8. Unsurprisingly, more than 70% of buyers opted for the tried-and-true 5.0 liter V8 as opposed to the new 2.3 liter EcoBoost, with 80% of orderers opting for the fastback bodystyle over the convertible. That’s a bit less surprising, given the generally cloudy weather.

When it comes to color choices though, the Brits stuck with the classics like Race Red, which accounts for nearly a quarter of all orders. Shadow Black and Magnetic Silver tied for second at about 16% each, with Deep Impact Blue at 10.7% and Triple Yellow with 8.6% filling out the top five color options.

Proving that the manual transmission isn’t as dead as some people would like you to believe, some 55% of Mustang buyers chose the six-speed shift-for-yourself option over the automatic slushbox. A similar number of buyers also selected the Custom Pack option, adding satellite navigation, heated/vented front seats, “Luster Nickel” alloy wheels, a 12-speaker Shaker sound system, and additional chrome (because chrome rules everything around me).

Look at these stats, we can’t help but feel a bit of additional kinship with allies across the pond. Those cats know sports cars, even if their version of “football” is a bit silly.
