Drifting was a sport once associated with import tuner cars and the Japanese car culture in particular. But these days the Americans and our big ol’ muscle cars are making quite the impact on the drifting scenes thanks to the tremendous torque of V8 engines. And it isn’t just the new muscle cars the import racers have to look out for.
Up on eBay is a turn-key drift car, and it isn’t just any car; it is a chrome, two-door Ford Fairmont sedan. But under the hood of this once-humble family coupe is the (heavily modified) heart of a Mustang, a 5.0L V-8.
That isn’t the only cool thing about this drift car though. Perhaps you’ve heard of a show called “Fast & Loud”? Starring the mechanics of the Gas Monkey Garage, Fast & Loud is all about taking classic cars and making them a car worth driving home. So this Fairmont definitely has some star power to it.
And just look at the thing! Besides the modified ‘86 5.0L engine, this Fairmont also gets a 5-speed manual transmission, an 8.8” rear end with 4:10 gears, and a seriously upgraded suspension. This includes Hotchkis trailing arms, KYB shocks, and an Aerospace 5-lug disc brake conversion, along with racing seats, and a roll cage. In other words, this Fairmont is ready and willing to go drifting…and look good at it.
Alas, if you wanted to bid on this ride, it’s a bit too late, as it already sold for $16,549. Better luck next time…
