While browsing through eBay we came across this ultra rare 1971 Plymouth Road Runner with the 426 Hemi engine. It’s described as totally restored and numbers matching. What makes this car so rare is that it’s a four-speed Gunmetal Grey Hemi Road Runner that’s one of just 28 ever made. There were a total of only 59 Hemi Road Runners produced in 1971. They say this car has sold previously for $200,000 and they are asking $150,000 at this time. This vehicle looks exactly as it did when it rolled off the the assembly line in 1971. There were approximately 393 Hemi cars built in 1971, which accounts for only 3.5% of the total Hemi car production over their eight year heyday.

The Road Runner features the famous air grabber pop up hood scoop and the pistol grip shifter. The 426 Hemi has dual four barrel carburetors to suck up massive amounts of fuel. Standard steel wheels, dog dish hub caps and Goodyear Polly Glass tires were what these cars came with from the factory. The rally road wheels were a $59 option in 1971. This particular Road Runner is a bench seat model but you do find them with the optional vinyl bucket seats; a $106 option. Not only are the 60’s Hemi Cars bringing in big money, but the 70’s cars are getting a pretty penny as well.
If you’re a purveyor of fine vintage American muscle, this one may be for your collection. Many purchase classic muscle cars as investments. This machine probably had a sticker price of around $5,000 back in 1971.
