Working on a car of your own is all kinds of rewarding, from turning the wrench on that last important nut to twisting the key and firing up the engine for the first time. Sure, working at a car in your home can be a real headache too, and if you’re not careful you could even get hurt…but that always happens to somebody else, right?
Unfortunately for one Spokane Valley, Washington resident, they were the “somebody else” this time, when an electrical short caused their 1969 Chevy Camaro to go up in flames. Talk about a bad way to start your day.
The Spokesman-Review reports that July 26th was an especially busy day for the Spokane Valley Fire Department, which had already responded to two overnight fires before the call about the Camaro came in. The unnamed homeowner was apparently out picking berries around 6:30 am when they smelled smoke coming from their garage.
The smoke was from a fire that started under the Camaro’s hood. The fire department responded quickly, but they were unable to save the car, which depending on options could be worth $70,000 or more on the market. The fire was caused by an electrical short, and could be related to hotter-than-normal temperatures that the Washington area had been experiencing.
Judging from pictures, this Camaro is salvageable, but only just. But that’s what insurance is for, right?
