It’s been almost two weeks since Super Bowl XLVIII, which will go down as one-sided affair from the start. Rarely has one team so thoroughly dominated another from the beggining to the end of a Super Bowl, and Peyton Manning’s Broncos were quite literally dismantled by the Seahawks defense. At the end of the game Seattle had scored 43 points, including a kickoff return touchdown by Percy Harvin at the start of the second half.

It was that particular touchdown which cost a Missouri Ford dealer some $300,000 in new vehicles, according to Automotive News. The Super Weekend Sales promotion event put on by Hutcheson Ford saw twelve car buyers, all of whom received their vehicles for free thanks to Harvin’s touchdown run.

The bet went like this; anybody who bought a car or truck at Hutcheson Ford between January 29th and February 1st would be eligible to have their car paid for, in-full, should a touchdown be scored on either the opening kickoff or second half kickoff. The odds of this happening? About 2.5%, which would seem to make it a safe bet for the dealership. But lightning has to strike somewhere, and it struck Harvin when he made that 87-yard return for a touchdown to open the second half of the game, and a 29-0 lead over Denver at that point.

Hutcheson made good on its promise with a smile, having filed for contest insurance prior to making the bet. A wise move, as the insurance company now has to bear the brunt of the costs in cars, which ranged in cost from $10,000 to $55,000. There were twelve winners, all of whom were invited to a celebratory party. And to prove they’re good sports, Hutcheson plans to make the Super Bowl bet an annual thing.
