The 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar was the last in a long run of the feline-themed automobiles, a desperate pitch to America’s sport compact obsessed youth. It didn’t work, and while the last Mercury Cougar was a pleasant-enough car with shapely lines and a modern look, the car never really caught on. After Ford closed the Mercury brand, the few Cougars left on the road have seen what little value they had left plummet.

So why is does this 2002 Cougar on eBay have a $89,000 asking price? Why, because its been converted into a poor-man’s Bugatti Veyron. Hey, we can’t all afford a million dollar automobile.

Replica car conversions have been popular in America and overseas for decades, ever since people figured out that you didn’t have to spend a lot of money to have an expensive-looking car. This 2002 Mercury Cougar follows in that great tradition, and even we have to admit that it’s a pretty convincing conversion. This Cougar obviously took its inspiration from the venerable Bugatti Veyron, and if you count just looks alone, it’s a pretty sharp looking car.

The interior is apparently “in progress” and will continue the red-and-white two tone theme on the inside. It’s definitely a one-of-one body kit, though we doubt such modifications will catch on with the car modifying public anytime soon. It would certainly get some looks at the local car show though.
