Owning a classic Mustang certainly is a rewarding experience, though it comes with its fair share of troubles too. At the top of the worry-list is of course damage or theft, and if you’re one of those people who obsess over the slightest paint chip, than going to car shows can be a real headache. But getting pulled over for drunk driving (again) and having the police confiscate your car? Man, that hurts.
That’s is what happened to a Hastings, Minnesota man, reports Twincities.com. Douglas Fredericksen’s 1969 Mustang will be auctioned off by police as punishment for his 2008 drunken driving arrest.
The Hastings police are no strangers to drinking and driving arrests that result in the forfeiture of property. Last year they made headlines when a man driving a motorized lounge chair was arrested for DUI. At most police auctions though, all you’ll find are a few beat-up Crown Victorias and a handful of hoopties (with the occasional drug dealer Cadillac thrown in for good measure.) But a 1969 Mustang? That’s a rare sight indeed at a police auction, and we can thank Fredericksen, who appealed but lost the ruling.
Don’t feel too bad for Fredericksen though, as vehicle forfeiture is usually reserved for second or third-time offenders. And as it turns out the Mustang, which was returned to Fredericksen during his appeal, no longer runs and is missing a lot of parts. No matter though, it should still net a fair price, and prove to be an interesting conversation piece for whoever happens to buy it next. Let’s just hope their wise enough not to drink and drive behind the wheel and risk losing this Mustang again.
