Vortech has been a powerhouse in late model Mustang supercharging for decades. With the introduction of an all new Mustang, Vortech, knew they needed to be on top of the market and offer a viable option for the the all new pony car.
“Not a lot has changed from the ’11-’14 systems,” says Vortech’s Brian Ellis. “With the motors mostly unchanged except for some improvements in horsepower, the cars are mechanically similar.”
The kit installed in these photos is the basic V-3 Si trim that has been popular in all of its previous iterations with Mustang customers. According to Ellis Vortech is expecting this system to make in the 640 hp neighborhood on 7-8 psi final verification of the system is complete. From there, you can go crazy, you can switch to a YSi, and make 1,2000 hp or more.”
Ellis says the design of the 2015 body actually made it easier to install the new charge air cooler and air ducts. “They actually extended the front end with the new body style, and that made it a bit easier on us. “It’s all well clearanced. “
V8 Mustangs aren’t the only thing getting a lot of attention from Vortech these days. Building on the knowledge gained with their previous Ford EcoBoost work on the Focus ST, and Fiesta ST, Vortech has designed a new charge air cooler (intercooler) for the EcoBoost Mustang.
According to Ellis this charge air cooler design will be the last intercooler upgrade any EcoBoost Mustang owner should ever need. “Not only will it help keep the heat soak at bay, cooler air makes more power” says Ellis.
As of the start of the SEMA show, the EcoBoost charge air cooler had just finished the design and prototyping phase with Vortech. The unit will undergo thorough testing and verification by the company prior to its release.
