When the automotive world lost Carroll Shelby earlier this year, it was a tragic, if not entirely unexpected blow to the community. But what has followed in the past few months only compounded the grief for Shelby’s family as his children and estranged-but-not-divorced wife battled over what to do with his remains.
After several months of legal back-and-forth, a settlement has almost been reached, reports the Detroit News. We can only say, it’s about time.
The issue revolved around what to do with the late Carroll Shelby’s mortal remains. Shelby had initiated divorce proceedings against his wife of many years back in 2010, but the divorce had not been finalized when Shelby died on May 10th of this year. Since then, Shelby’s children and his not-quite-ex wife have been fighting over what to do with his body.
It seems that a settlement has been reached just a few days ahead of a civil trial scheduled for Thursday. The settlement will see Shelby’s body cremated, and the ashes divided five ways; three for his children, one for Cleo, and one to be buried in the family plot in Texas. Hopefully now Mr. Shelby and his family can finally find some peace.
