SpeedKore Unveils Ghost: A White-Hot Carbon-Fiber 1970 Charger

Check out this spooky, carbon fiber-bodied 1970 Dodge Charger that SpeedKore debuted at the 2024  Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California. We were strolling the show’s main hall and stumbled upon this incredible Mopar preening under the lights. Christened Ghost, it gave us supernatural thrills, and just like shadows in a haunted house, sometimes things aren’t always as they appear.

Street Muscle talked with SpeedKore rep Lyle Brummer, and he walked us around the car and highlighted the intricacies of the build. “Ghost features a full carbon-fiber body custom-built in-house with our aerospace-grade carbon fiber. We started with a super straight, metal Charger body and pulled our molds for the carbon fiber shell from there. Everything you see is carbon fiber, including the floor pan, wheel tubs, and bumpers.” The unpainted carbon fiber components have custom graining and add a nice contrast to Ghost’s white exterior.

“Ghost represents the evolution of our previous builds and expands on SpeedKore’s mission to fabricate the world’s most advanced 1970 Dodge Charger. Our goal is to marry timeless design, advanced composites, and reliable performance to redefine what the American muscle car should be. This is also the first white car we have built, hence the name Ghost.”

Fair enough, now what’s under the hood, you ask? Motivation comes from a 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 belting out over 700 horsepower to the rear wheels via a TREMEC TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission and a Driveshaft Shop carbon-fiber driveshaft and Strange Engineering 9-inch rear end. The supercharged HEMI is crowned with a one-off cold-air intake system. The engine exhales through custom SpeedKore headers and an exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers.

The carbon-fiber bodywork lowers the Charger’s center of gravity, and the CAD-designed SpeedKore frame conceals the fuel and oil lines to improve aesthetics and safety. The 4×2-inch steel chassis is paired with a 14-point roll cage, which delivers extreme rigidity. This chassis also allows for a wider track and longer wheelbase, enhancing the ride and handling.

An IDIDIT steering column and Woodward steering rack add precision steering, while Penske dual-adjustable coilovers keep things composed in the twisty bits. The Ghost hunkers down effortlessly on a Detroit Speed double A-arm front suspension and custom four-bar diagonal link rear suspension by SpeedKore.

Rolling stock consists of Brembo six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors up front and dual Brembo four-piston calipers at the rear. Custom HRE 19×9-inch front and 20×12-inch rear wheels wrapped in 265/35ZR19 and 345/30ZR20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires touch down on the tarmac.

The EVOD machined grille center is milled from billet aluminum before being coated in a black finish, and fitted with a set of custom LED projector headlights from Dapper Lighting with machined aluminum brightwork. The profile reveals shaved rain gutters, and trimless glass to create an elongated greenhouse that allows the Charger’s lines to flow uninterrupted. A SpeedKore carbon fiber taillight panel nicely complements the Charger’s time-honored “Coke bottle” contours.

Inside the cockpit, the easter eggs continue with a custom carbon-fiber dash, door panels, and rear interior quarter panels. Although these elements are new, they retain early seventies Mopar DNA. The seats have carbon fiber backrests, custom leather stitched by Manda Marie Upholstery, and gauges from Classic Instruments. A SpeedKore center console and 2,000-watt Bluetooth-driven audio system from KICKER Audio ensure mood-appropriate cruising music is always just a click away.

We loved SpeedKore’s Ghost, not in a Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze way, but close. We were amazed at the build quality and factory-correct Elwood Engle body lines. We think SpeedKore was wise to keep the vintage Mopar vibe intact and then upgrade all the other aspects of the build to follow suit. Kudos to SpeedKore and keep the hits coming, guys.
