Until a few years ago, the Nurburgring was a track not well known outside of Germany. One of the longest and most grueling race tracks in the world, it is a testing and proving ground for many auto manufacturers. It is also a gathering point for road racing fans, who bring every conceivable make and model of car to the ‘Ring to test their mettle against other competitors. Even American muscle cars sometimes make their way to the ‘Ring.

Take this YouTube video of Bill Shepard racing his 1963 289-powered Cobra around the Nurburgring for the GT Masters Race.

This video is from the qualifying round, and Bill Shepard went on to earn a pole position. Unfortunately, the track flooded the next day, canceling the race, but leaving us with some awesome footage of Shepard piloting his ’63 Cobra around the ‘Ring. And boy, can that man drive! He passes plenty of cars, the 289 V8 singing a perfect symphony of internal combustion as he zips around classic Porsches, MG’s, and even other Cobras.

You may have heard of Bill Shepard before. Perhaps not. He owns Bill Shepard’s Mustangs, which imports and acquires classic and modern Mustangs for sale to the British public. He has an extensive list of Mustangs for sale on his website, including a ’69 BOSS 429 Mustang and a ’67 Bullitt Mustang GT 390. We’ve got to admire this man’s taste in cars! The video is 14 minutes long, and well worth watching Shepard’s superb driving skills. The engine sounds alone are worth it.
