As most of you no doubt already know, on last Friday the legendary American automaker Carroll Shelby passed away. Though many of us have never driven a real Shelby, he is without a doubt one of the most influential car makers of all time. Shelby was also well-known in the world of Hollywood, and had many famous friends, among them comedian Bill Cosby.

Cosby and Shelby were so close in fact, that one of Cosby’s most famous acts and albums was titled “200 M.P.H.”, a reference to the top speed of a car Carroll Shelby built for the comedian back in 1967.

According to Cosby’s version, he bumped into Shelby at the grocery store, where the car maker accosted the comedian for driving Ferraris. Cosby explained that was because the Ferrari went 180 mph, while American supercars only reached 160. That was when Shelby pledged to build Cosby an American car that would go 200 mph.

It is a classic bit, a reminder of the devil-may-care attitude when it came to Shelby. By sheer willpower, Shelby was able to put together a 200 MPH Cobra for Cosby, which led to this hilarious 12-minute bit by the famous comedian.
