Who was the first person to invent lawnmower racing? Many have claimed the title, and the truth is we’ll probably never know for sure. But these days those who can’t afford to race cars race tractors instead, often modifying the motors to make way more power than they were ever supposed to…or even swapping in a motorcycle motor. Usually that’s where the craziness ends.
But not in Australia. Nope, some bloke got it in his head that what his lawnmower needed was some small-block Chevy action. Then he put it on a dyno.
At first we thought that supercharger setup was real, but alas it turns out to be just a showpiece as we find out once the dyno results come in. Even so, with 200 horsepower on tap, this mower is probably one fast piece of lawn care equipment. Of course you’d have to be a little off in the head to want to drive it, but that’s neither here nor there.
For just a 200 horsepower small-block, it sounds something fierce too, don’t it? Backed by a 700R4 transmission, this engine isn’t all that special…but the whole ride is. Ya, we can totally see ourselves building one in the garage…but we doubt our womenfolk would be too happy with us building a vehicle of our own demise. You can tell by the interview with the builder that the thought of dying on his V8 lawnmower never crossed his mind. He’s a brave one for sure.
