A burnout is pretty much the most basic car maneuver ever. They teach it on day one at driving schools, and all you really have to do is build up revs, dump the clutch and stomp the gas. Burning out in an automatic is even easier. Yet people still find ways to turn tire burning into a disaster.
This YouTube video is an extreme example of a bad burnout. Not only is the burnout itself kind of lame, but it also results in a serious crash as the Dodge Ram SRT10 rolls over in a most spectacular fashion. Goodbye expensive truck. (Caution: NSFW language ahead for obvious reasons.)
There is no description of this video, no explanation of exactly what happened, so we have to break it down for ourselves. The video starts off well enough, with what appears to be a 2006 Dodge Ram SRT10 pickup. You know, the Ram that just happens to be packing the Viper’s 8.3 liter 510 horsepower V10 engine. Its basically the ballsiest truck you can buy, and while it isn’t exactly a race car, it’s a real attention getter and tire shredder.
The driver, who looks barely old enough to drive, takes off down the road with a really weak burnout. Come on, you’ve got huge tires and a 510 horsepower V10 engine, make some smoke! Down the road, the back end breaks loose a bit the driver veers right slightly and then over-corrects left. He pretty much drives straight into a ditch going probably 40 mph, and the top-heavy truck quickly flips on its head. The cameraman runs up and the driver is already out of the truck, apparently unhurt. Which is swell and all, except he just totaled a $40,000 truck. An expensive lesson on how not to drive.
