To say that the 2013 Shelby GT500 is the hottest, most anticipated car of the year is selling the car short. After blowing the motoring world away last November with a 650 horsepower Shelby, Ford continued to wow us with an official rating of 662 horsepower. But even that might be underselling the 2013 Shelby GT500.
Mustang 5.0 Magazine already put a 2013 Shelby to the dyno and netted a rear-wheel horsepower rating of 609 horsepower. Now Livernois Motorsports has gotten a customer’s stock 2013 GT500 on the dyno, and the results were shockingly similar.
Besides the magnificent roar of that vicious V8, we’re looking to see what kinds of numbers the GT500 made. After all, perhaps Mustang 5.0 Magazine got an over-powerful factory freak, or perhaps just had the ideal horsepower-making weather. But Livernois Motorsport’s dyno run puts down 601 horsepower at the wheels and 584 ft-lbs of torque.
With just 93 miles on the odometer, this car is as factory fresh as they come. Figuring for a 15% drivetrain power loss though, at 601 horsepower that means the 2013 Shelby GT500 is making close to 690-700 flywheel horsepower. Wow. Just wow.
