The Pro-Touring hobby has gained a lot of fans across the spectrum of aftermarket parts makers, but few companies have embraced Pro Touring cars with as much passion as Ridetech. With Ridetech owner Bret Voelkel personally campaigning a badass Factory Five ‘33 Ford kit car across the country, one of Pro Touring’s biggest supporters puts his money where his mouth is.
That said, with the car show season drawing to a close for much of the northern half of the United States, now is as good a time as any for making some upgrades to the Ridetech ‘33 Ford. In the above video, Bret Voelkel himself walks us through the installation of a new Centerforce clutch for the ‘33 Ford and explains why the upgrade was necessary.
Voelkel explains that, while the clutch in the ‘33 was working alright, but it had something of a “hair trigger” due to its lightweight construction. This made the ‘33 Ford street rod kind of hard to drive, especially in the autocross events Voelkel is so fond of racing – and what better way to get the attention of scared reporters then with a nice clutch upgrade.
The Centerforce Dyad clutch that Ridetech engineers install on the ‘33 Ford is just what the doctor ordered. The clutch went right on, and while it needed some tuning, the testing showcased how much better this clutch setup was. Even better, a week after this video was made, Bret went out and won the Goodguys Show in Fort Worth, Texas, where he took the top spot with ‘33 Ford and its new clutch setup.
Bret Voelkel’s ‘33 Ford hot rod is definitely one to watch out for on the autocross track, especially with the new and improved clutch setup.
