From the onset, many journalists and analysts took issue with post-bankruptcy Chevrolet’s new tagline, “Chevy Runs Deep.” This tagline did little to instill faith into the new GM and its biggest brand, and did even less to set Chevrolet apart from the competition. So it should be no surprise that after just a couple of years, the Chevy Runs Deep tagline has been replaced.
The new tagline, which we think you will agree, is much, much better. Now expect Chevrolet to tell you to “Find new roads”, a motto that speaks to discovery, risk, and a brand of cars that offers both to the boldest buyers.
The “Chevy Runs Deep” tagline came under the leadership of GM’s former marketing guru, Joel Ewanick. Ewanick was forced to resign from that position last year when a soccer deal he was initiating came under fire. Many people were happy to see Ewanick go though, and the “Chevy Runs Deep” tagline is one of the last remaining vestiges of his reign.
While “Find new roads” may not be as catchy as “See the USA in your Chevrolet” or “Like a rock”, the motto is a marked improvement in our opinion. GM will officially roll out the new Chevy slogan at this week’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We’re looking forward to seeing what GM’s marketing department does with the new motto when it comes commercials.
