The new Dodge Challenger helped rekindle America’s love with retro-styled muscle cars, and it has since become something of a worldwide phenomenon. This is doubly true since the introduction of the 707 horsepower Challenger Hellcat, and Mopar fans from around the world adorn their walls and workspaces with pictures of their favorite muscle car.
Alas, most people outside of North America simply don’t have access to these marvelous machines, but that doesn’t stop them from building “tributes”, to be generous. This particular “tribute” to the Dodge Challenger found by Carscoops has two too-many doors and a Chevy bowtie badge for some inexplicable reason…but as far as budget tributes go? This one’s not so bad…at least from the front, that is.
It’s difficult to ascertain exactly what automobile served as the donor car for this Challenger tribute, though one commentator seems confident that it’s a Chevrolet Opala, which is really just a rebadged Opel Rekord C. Built for the Brazilian market from 1968 to 1992, the Opala was primarily powered by small four and six-cylinder engines, and for a time there was even a SS version making all of 169 horsepower from its 250 cubic-inch engine.
That said, nobody would ever mistake an Opala for a true American muscle car, though the builder of this particular Challenger tribute found it to be a good foundation to start with. While the proportions are all off, and the additional pair of doors really threw us for a loop, somebody put a lot of time and effort into building the best tribute they could to the Challenger. Who are we to mock this person’s dedication? This was no weekend hack job to be sure, though we’re still bothered by the bowtie badge.
On an already, uh, “interesting” looking car, the badging begs the most questions. However, it’s not the first marriage of bowtie and pentastar that we’ve seen in a concept.
