Australia seems like a continent made up solely of crazy gearheads. It is the perfect retirement home for anybody who wants access to lots of wide, empty roads, high-powered cars, and plenty of other crazy gearheads to chat with. They also happen to be home to some pretty awesome automotive-related contests, from a solar-powered race across the continent to the Bathhurst 1000.
The Gazza Nationals just might take the cake though. Bangshift came across a few videos from their burnout contest, where they eventually crown the Burnout Master.
Australia is home to plenty of muscle cars, many of them modified versions of American automobiles and others 100% Aussie. Perhaps the most inspiring and awesome Aussie automobiles are the infamous Utes, which are half car, and half truck. Basically, Australia never got over the whole El Camino craze, and even today they continue to build awesome, V8 and turbocharged Utes for the enjoyment of all. The two Utes in these first two videos are both Holdens, one obviously newer than the other.
The third video here features a Holden Commodore, one of the most popular muscle cars in Australia. It too is an older model, though quite well done (not a fan of the big wheels though).
It is the final video that is our favorite, however. The car featured here is a Ford Cortina, which has been fitted with an inline-six cylinder turbo engine. This is quite the popular swap in Australia. Watch the whole video, because eventually this Cortina loses a tire, and the crowd goes wild.
