This sway bar unbinds the control arms which allows the suspension to work better.
We talked with Hellwig’s David Wheeler about the latest release for GM A-Body cars. “Our GM A-Body Pro Touring rear sway bar is destined to be a favorite for the road racers, touring racers or even the aggressive street drivers,” Wheeler said.
Taking a look at the Pro Touring sway bar, we could quickly see the three point adjustment at each end of the sway bar, but Wheeler pointed out a fully adjustable end link that can be attached to the sway bar making the amount of fine tuning adjustments almost unlimited.
“This sway bar really unbinds the control arms which allows the suspension to work better,” says Wheeler.
Like all Hellwig Motorsports tubular sway bars, this Pro Touring rear sway bar utilizes high strength drawn over mandrel (DOM) tubing to maximize performance at half the weight of a solid bar. “We have subtle details that make a huge difference like tapering the tube from round to flat at the end. This eliminates stress risers and potential weak points in the metal. The ends are “radiused” for better clearance and it gives the sway bar a cleaner appearance,” claimed Wheeler.
We asked about the tube bending procedure and Wheeler explained, “all the bends are done on computer controlled benders. This provides a consistent set of bends in every sway bar giving our customers that exact right fit every time.”
Listening to Wheeler talk about sway bars, it became readily apparent that tire technology has changed over the years. With more traction available to the vehicle, it makes sense that sway bar technology has to improve to take advantage of the increased traction in tire technology. Like Wheeler said to us, “It’s all about getting balanced force to the ground, whether it’s a road racer or your average grocery getter.”
As we were getting ready to leave, Wheeler gave us one more reason to love the new sway bars. “They are made in the USA,” he stated proudly.
