2016 Mustang EcoBoost With Pony Package Spotted Testing

2015-Mustang-EcoBoost-Static-Angeles-Hwy-007Ford took a huge chance with the 2015 Mustang by placing a 2.3 liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine between the base V6 and the range-topping 5.0 V8 of the GT model. With 310 horsepower it out powers the larger V6, but there’s more to the 2015 Mustang than just numbers. To really support the idea of the Mustang EcoBoost as true Mustang, Ford is ready to offer the Pony Package with a whole host of look-good goodies with the 2016 model year.

SEMA managed to catch some spy pics of the upcoming 2016 Mustang EcoBoost with the Pony Package (we think). While you’ll have to see the pictures on their site, we can tell you about all the goodies you can expect if you tick off this option on the order form.

Not to be confused with the Performance Package, the EcoBoost Pony Package adds its own unique 19-inch wheels, a chrome grille, special side stripes, and a tri-color pony emblem on said grille. We’re not sure what other upgrades the Pony Package might pack, but we’re betting some special seat trim or instrument panels might be offered. Pricing isn’t set yet, but the Pony Package is expected to go on sale at the end of 2015.

Want more go rather than show? Then you want the EcoBoost Performance Package. Priced at $1,995 according to the online configurator, the Performance Package adds a whole host of upgrades meant to get the most out of the 2.3 liter EcoBoost drivetrain. This includes a 3.55:1 rear end gear ratio (up from 3.31), unique 19-inch aluminum wheels, heavy duty front springs, bigger brakes with four-piston calipers, a bigger radiator, spoiler delete, and unique chassis, EPAS, and ABS tuning to go along with a larger rear-sway bar. That’s a long list of improvements, many borrowed directly from the Mustang GT itself.

Unfortunately, you’re going to be forced to pick between the Pony and Performance Packages, though there’s always the dealer-level accessories to pick from if you want. If you had to choose, would you rather your Mustang EcoBoost look a little better, or go a little faster?
