It’s been said that the 1969 Camaro is the epitome of the classic musclecar: great looks, powerful engines, and classic lines. For many people, the 1969 Camaro is the ultimate, while others might call it a cookie-cutter car: seen one, seen them all.
But there’s one 1969 Camaro that’s been making news since 1988 with high speed passes, and even had its own documentary series on television – Big Red: The Original Outlaw Racer.
Big Red Camaro is likely the one 1969 Camaro that every gearhead knows about, and is the exception to the rule when it comes to cookie-cutter musclecars. With a story that reads like a big screen docudrama, Big Red is being memorialized in this tribute build with the Big Red Edition 2015 Camaro Z/28. This fifth gen tribute to the original Big Red was built to generate funds for Ride 2 Recovery Project Hero Veterans Charity.
The Big Red Edition Camaro Z/28 features SLP engine and UMI rear suspension upgrades, and will be running on a set of Forgeline wheels custom made for this project car. The Forgeline GX3R wheels are finished with Race Gold centers and polished outers, paying homage to the look of the original Big Red Camaro.
The tribute car will head to Mecum Auctions on April 16th this year in Houston, Texas (Lot #S84), where proceeds will be donated to Ride 2 Recovery, which focuses on recover and rehabilitation programs for veterans.
We visited the Goodguys 16th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals to see the car first hand this past weekend to get some pictures for you, and it’s absolutely stunning. This tribute car is on a West Coast tour before heading out to Texas for the auction this month.
You can catch the car on the Big Red Tribute Facebook page, and you can find dozens of custom wheels for just about any build on the Forgeline website, where the similarly styled GX3 is available for your own ride.
