If there was ever a period-correct Fox Mustang, John Bruce’s ’92 LX hatch is it. It still features many of the same mods he did in the 90s. It’s a time capsule. Many of us modify our Mustangs, and change things up every couple years, but Bruce added popular modifications of the day, and left it alone, focusing on other areas of the car.
Bruce bought the LX in November of 1992 with just 2,230 miles on it. The original owner was being transferred, and had to get rid of the car. The car now has 77,000 miles on it; all under Bruce’s care.
Bruce’s LX is period-correct both inside and out. When was the last time you saw Colorado Custom wheels on a Fox? Bruce’s LX has them in 17×8 up front, and 17×9 out back. They’ve been on the car since 1995-’96. He can’t remember exactly what year he added them. The wheels were sponsored to him, and the BF Goodrich tires are the same ones he added when he installed the wheels. “I hardly see them on other cars,” Bruce says about the wheels.
“It’s a throwback to the 90s,” Bruce says about the LX’s interior. It’s all tweed, which is what everyone did back in the 90s. Pretty much everything inside has been given the tweed treatment, but it also features a chrome roll bar (Not wrapped in tweed), Schroth harnesses, and a slew of Auto Meter gauges, including a Monster tach.
Even under all that chrome and polish, the engine features popular mods of the day. The 5.0 benefits from a NOS Powershot nitrous kit, Comp Cams 1.7 roller rockers, JBA shorty headers, a BBK Performance cold air intake, a Pro-M Bullet 76mm mass air meter, and an Accufab 70mm throttle body. Since Bruce lives in Cali, the car still has all four catalytic converters, but after that is a pair of Flowmaster mufflers (of course) with polished 2 1/2-inch tailpipes. Let’s not forget about the car’s Pro-5.0 shifter with the stock handle, subframe connectors, and Ford Racing 3.55 gears.
Bruce has been going to Fabulous Fords Forever at Knott’s since 1994, and was even at the amusement park with the family when we talked to him about the LX.
