SEMA 2011: “Stock-Look” Flame-Thrower Distributors From Pertronix


What we really have here is a value-priced, high-performance item that offers all the great aftermarket benefits inside and also gives that great stock look.

In some segments of the automotive enthusiast hobby, particularly in the classic muscle car restoration and street rods markets, the desire for components under the hood that appear stock but perform with far greater capability than OEM parts are in high demand. And with that demand in mind, the folks at Pertronix Performance Products designed their new Flame-Thrower “Stock-Look” Distributors, which delivers that original factory look with all of the features that one would expect from a high-quality, high-performance part.

The “Stock-Look” Flame-thrower aftermarket distributor features a new lightweight cast aluminum housing that’s been modeled after Delco and Motorcraft distributors for your GM and Ford applications. That’s right, these aren’t modified OEM parts, but ground-up designs from Pertronix based on original appearances for Ford Small Block and Chevrolet Big Block/Small Block engines.

“We didn’t just take factory pieces, modify them to our liking, box them back up, and ship them out,” says President Jim Hairston. “These are high-quality distributors that we’ve manufactured top to bottom.”

The Flame-Throwers also sport a hardened gear ground to exact tolerances for a precise mesh with the camshaft, an adjustable vacuum advance canister for improved tunability, and optimized phasing that insures maximum energy to the spark plug.

Best of all – in addition to the stock appearance, of course – is the maintenance free ignitor electronics built into the unit, which provides decades of trouble-free operation and negating the hassle of adjusting points and replacing capacitors. Each Flame-Thrower ships with a high-end cap and rotor that’s ready to run out of the box.

  • Tailored advance curve for optimal performance and drivability
  • Integrated electronic ignition available with Solid State Ignitor or Ignitor III with adjustable rev limiter
  • High dielectric strength cap and rotor with brass contacts
  • Legal in all 50 states
