It seems someone let their V6 Mustang get the best of them, after a coffee and cars meet in Charlotte, North Carolina. A blue late model Mustang was leaving the car show when the driver gave her a little too much throttle. He lost control of his car, spun out through the intersection, somehow missing every car and bystander in sight, and ended up taking out an innocent fire hydrant on a grassy hill.
Like many people as they leave car shows, the driver got excited and attempted to show off to the crowd. This is typically a no-no at events like these, but there’s always a bad apple, as they say. A few people have suggested that he swerved to avoid the white Chevy truck leaving the intersection, but judging from the angle below the truck was not a factor.
The fire hydrant was bent but still standing, while the rear bumper of the Mustang was destroyed. The Mustang was still driveable after it was pushed off the hill by onlookers.
Sadly, this incident was the final nail in the coffin for the city of Charlotte. The city has indefinitely cancelled Cars and Coffee, because the actions of a few that have ultimately ruined a positive thing for everyone. We can only hope the city of Charlotte will realize that cars are a part of American culture and that idiots like this Mustang driver are only the minority – for the one driver who did this, a hundred others were respectful.
Cars and Coffee has given gearheads a place to gather and support local businesses such as Mattie’s and the NC Music Factory, we can only hope the city will come around in the future. Please, people, don’t use these great venues and gatherings to try to prove your manhood – because sometimes, like this guy, you come up a little short!
